Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Invint (Johannesburg), working in partnership with Holistic Energy (Cape Town), collects and uses your personal information across this website, the EnergyMapper product, and our consulting engagements. We process personal information in accordance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible for your information

The responsible party is Inventive Integration (Pty) Ltd, trading as Invint, company registration number 2017/103600/07, of 4 Mervyn Avenue, Duxberry, Sandton, Gauteng, 2191, South Africa. Our Information Officer can be reached at brian@invint.co.za.

What we collect

• Contact details you give us — name, email address, city, and the content of your message via our contact form.
• Account details if you register for EnergyMapper — email and authentication data.
• Site / energy data you choose to provide for benchmarking and analysis.
• Monitoring-app logins, only for LuxPower and Solarman and only if you choose to give them (see below).
• Technical data such as IP address and basic usage/diagnostic logs.

Connecting your solar system, and logins we keep

When you connect a system to EnergyMapper or GridMapper, we read its measurements from your inverter maker’s monitoring service: grid voltage and frequency, solar, battery and consumption. We use them to detect power outages and to work out reliability figures for your suburb. We publish suburb-level figures only; nothing we publish names you or your house.

For most monitoring apps (Sunsynk, Victron, GoodWe, SolarEdge) you add our monitoring account as a view-only viewer, and we never receive your password. You can remove that access at any time, from the same screen you granted it on.

LuxPower and Solarman have no view-only sharing. If you choose to connect one of them, you give us your login for that app, and we keep:

• your username, and
• your password, or for Solarman a scrambled form of it (a SHA-256 hash, made in your browser before it is sent). That hash still works as your Solarman login, so we protect it exactly as we protect a password.

Both are encrypted the moment they reach us (AES-256), with a key that is kept apart from the database they are stored in. We use your login only to read your system’s data. We never change a setting or use any control function, and we do not share your login with anyone. Only our monitoring service and our administrator, when checking that a login works, ever open it.

We keep your login until you disconnect. When you give it to us we email you a receipt with a disconnect link: open it, confirm, and the stored login is deleted completely, not archived. You can also write to our Information Officer at brian@invint.co.za. A login that we have not got working within 30 days is deleted automatically. Changing your password in the app also ends our access straight away.

Why we collect it

To respond to your enquiry, provide and operate EnergyMapper, deliver consulting services you request, secure your account, and meet our legal obligations. We rely on your consent and/or the performance of our agreement with you as the lawful basis for processing.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We use trusted third-party processors only to run the service: Web3Forms (contact-form delivery), SendGrid (transactional email) and Microsoft Azure (hosting). Each processes data on our instructions.

Storage, security and retention

Your information is stored on Microsoft Azure in its South Africa North region — the website and its database both — and protected with appropriate technical and organisational measures. We keep it only as long as necessary for the purposes above: account and site data for as long as your account is active, and contact-form enquiries for as long as the conversation needs them. Where the law requires us to keep a record for longer, we keep it for that period only. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.

Your rights under POPIA

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, contact our Information Officer at brian@invint.co.za. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).

Cookies

We use one cookie: a sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in to EnergyMapper, set only when you sign in. We also use your browser’s local storage to remember small preferences on your own device — for example, that you have dismissed a hint. We use no advertising or analytics cookies, and nothing that tracks you across other websites. You can clear all of this at any time in your browser settings; signing out removes the sign-in cookie.
